At my signal, unleash hell

“Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line! Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you are already DEAD!
Brothers, what we do in life… ECHOES IN ETERNITY!”

“Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas every day. The good writers are the ones who see five or six of them. Most people don’t see any.” – Orson Scott Card

“To be a writer is to sit down at one’s desk in the chill portion of every day, and to write; not waiting for the little jet of the blue flame of genius to start from the breastbone – just plain going at it, in pain and delight. To be a writer is to throw away a great deal, not to be satisfied, to type again, and then again, and once more, and over and over…” John Hersey

“Exercise the writing muscle every day, even if it is only a letter, notes, a title list, a character sketch, a journal entry. Writers are like dancers, like athletes. Without that exercise, the muscles seize up.” Jane Yolen

  1. Just tried watching this on my MBP but had to stop almost half way through. Hate to say this but I couldnt hear anything you were saying. I’ll try watching later on when I go upstairs and plug my external speaker in and see if I can hear better then.

  2. I needed that. Thank you Mr Vlogger Heart (and Soul). The world is our oyster, at least for a month.

The first vlog I ever stumbled upon was one of yours. On WorkingForMyDad where I left anonymous howlings of pleasure. I’d never seen anything quite like it. They were my first contact, my first introduction to the wondrous world of vlogging. You made everything fresh again. I still go back to those posts (amongst others!) when miserable, like a comfy book or a favourite memory. I’m never disappointed.

The way you vlog is an inspiration – despite your doubts. Just do. You never fail. No creative act is ever ultimately a failure. For as Mr Beckett once said:

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.

    Yes indeedy.

  3. I had trouble hearing you too, but I know of no one else I would strain to hear as loudly for…I can’t wait to meet you, hopefully one on one for about 4 hours, just me and you talking, sharing, communicating, looking at every little thing in a new and different way…Vlog on!

  4. I could hear you Rupert – the loud whispering made it feel like Kate’s dad himself was going to stomp into the room at any minute and ask you what the hell you were doing. Yeah – grappling with that boogey thing of perfectionism too – pressure, ego, and creeping insecurity. . . videoblogging every day does seem like a great way to bust through this – thinking I might join in – will email you about how to get my stuff up . . .

  5. All volumes to the max, headphones on… Rupert whispering… I’m hearing every word he says, deeply concentrated, contemplating… and then my friend logs in and my Win Live Messenger made such loud BEEP which almost cracked my head in two!

  6. Got a chance to listen to it again with the external speakers and yes, like Angela said, I felt like someone was about to burst in at any second!

    Fantastic stuff Rupert!

  7. Did you every kiss a guy, er I mean a girl without thought, without threat of repercussions? Your only guide was the internal sine wave of forward movement so you could suck some face and vibrate the cosmos?

And you knew or were pretty dang sure it would be alright with the recipient? Sometimes you were right and sometimes you were not able to land on first base.

Yeah, it is like that. Pucker up.
